VAP Matrix Screens - Overview

Updated over 2 weeks ago

A new style of VAP matrix has been introduced which is easier and faster to use, and allows you to update the matrix screens like a spreadsheet. You can quickly scroll up, down, left and right, and update single cells, or highlight multiple cells and update them. "Go to" options allow you to jump to individual cells. Updates are saved as you enter them, but there are options to undo changes to cells, rows, columns and the entire matrix.

The new-style matrix is available on:

  • Standard House Types Budget

  • A new Development Budget Workbench which incorporates tabs for House Type Budgets and Plot Budgets.

  • Subcontract Order Matrix

  • Subcontract Certificate Matrix

  • Tick Group Valuation Matrix

  • cost head Valuation Matrix

Initial Configuration

Valuation Methods

The only valuation methods that are supported by the new matrix screens are tick group valuations and cost head valuations. If you have previously used a different method of valuation, we recommend you configure tick groups to provide the required level of detail at which to do your valuations. Some (or all) tick groups can be set to value in detail if required.

Functions Access

These changes mean that a number of old functions have been replaced by new ones, so security access for all users/groups with access to these areas of matrix functionality will need to be reviewed and updated on upgrade.

Features of New Matrix Screens

Matrix screens - navigation

The screens scroll left and right, and up and down. You can scroll using the scrollbars or the cursor keys on your keyboard, and scroll up and down using the mouse wheel.

Frozen columns to the left of the screen identify the rows (for example, the stage, tick group, plot or house type). You can resize the frozen columns to give more space for the remaining columns.

The current row in the frozen columns section, and the current cell, are both highlighted.

Highlighted Row and Cell

Two Search fields at the top of the screen (one for the rows, and one for the columns) allow you to jump directly to any cell in the matrix. Select the row and/or the column you want to jump to, and click the Apply button.

Search Fields

If you make more space available (for example, by resizing the window or changing the zoom level), additional rows and columns are displayed.

Matrix screens – sorting

You can change the order in which the columns are arranged across the page; click the Sort button

and select the appropriate option.

Sort Button and Options

You can also change the order in which the rows are sorted by clicking a column heading in the frozen columns area. The arrow shows which order the rows are sorted in.

Sorted Column

Totals

You can show totals for the columns and rows.

Click the Total button.

A totals column in the frozen columns area shows the totals for each row, and a totals row at the top of the matrix (below the column headers) shows the totals for each column.

Total Rows and Columns

The Total button turns yellow to show that totals are being displayed.

If you have filters applied, the totals only show the totals of the filtered cells.

Matrix screens – Filters

You can filter the data in the matrix. The fields that are available for you to filter by depend on the specific screen.

  1. Click the Filter button to display the filter panel.

    Filter Panel

  2. Click Filter On.

  3. Type the values you want to filter by, or click

to use the lookup. Standard Coins ERP+ wildcards are allowed (for example: ASHE* to filter on all codes that begin with ASHE).

  4. Click OK to apply the filter.

The matrix refreshes and shows only the data you have filtered by. The filter button turns yellow to show that a filter is applied.

If you are showing totals, the totals only include the filtered data.

Matrix screens - editing

To update a cell, click it, type the new value, and press Return or Tab. Pressing Return moves the input down to the next available cell in the column; pressing Tab moves the input across to the next available cell in the row.

When you update a cell, its background colour changes to blue.

Updated Cells

Cells with a grey background cannot be updated.

You can copy and paste values between cells.

Your changes are saved automatically; there is no need to save them as you go along.

Note: If you make a mistake, you can undo changes to individual cells, rows, columns or the entire matrix.
