Resources in Bill of Quantities

Updated over 2 weeks ago

A bill resource is the detailed item that forms the basis of a template or lot bill of quantity line. The bill master file holds default details for various fields on the BOQ detail lines.

Resources are linked to one or more material commodity codes or subcontract trade codes. These are used when raising orders through Procurement. The commodity or trade code in turn provides the link to a cost head. Resources are more detailed than commodities, and can be used in Procurement even if you are not using the rest of Bill of Quantities.

Resources are assigned to a cost category (optionally more than one). You can configure Bill of Quantities to take the costing from the bill, or from the associated commodity. The pricing status allows you, for example, to maintain estimated prices at resource level, and use the Prices Workbench to maintain general and supplier-specific prices.

For added security, you can control, for each resource, whether users of Bill of Quantities can change prices or descriptions when the resource is used on a bill.

You can mark resources as "substitutable" if they are likely to be swapped out for equivalent items (say from a different manufacturer). On individual lots, you can choose items to be substituted and select the substitute resource.

Sized resources

For materials which come in different sizes (such as lengths of timber), extra fields allow you to specify the size.

Wastage

You can incorporate a wastage percentage into material quantities on bill items that have a material element. When the items are used on an order, Coins ERP+ increases the material element by this percentage.
