Correct stock balance and average value

This document explains how to adjust stock value, WDV and balance on a stock item which has cost used set up as average at group level.

If your stock balance or average value appears incorrect, you can correct it using a stock adjustment.

📌Note: In Coins, only the balance (quantity) and written down value (WDV) are stored directly. The average value is always calculated.

For each stock location, two figures are held:

  1. Balance — the quantity of items held.

  2. Pool value — the total value of that item in that location.

The average value is always calculated as: pool value ÷ balance.

Adjust both quantity and value

If both quantity and value need correcting, calculate the difference between the current figures and the figures you want.

  1. Current: Qty = 15, WDV = 2567.98.

  2. Required: Qty = 13, WDV = 1826.16.

  3. Differences: Qty = -2, Value = -741.82.

  4. Enter an adjustment with -2 qty and a unit price of 370.91.

If you only want to change the value and not the quantity, enter an adjustment with 0 qty and the value difference (for example, -741.82).

Worked example: correct the average value

In this example, the balance is 100 and the WDV is 3943, so the average value is 3943 ÷ 100 = 39.43.

If the balance is correct but the average value needs to be 50, you need to calculate the WDV required to achieve this.

  1. Calculate the required WDV: 50 × 100 = 5000.

  2. Calculate the adjustment value: 5000 − 3943 = 1057.

  3. Enter an adjustment for the stock item at the relevant stock location with 0 qty (to leave the balance unchanged) and a value of 1057.

Enter the adjustment at the relevant stock location with 0 qty and the calculated value, as shown below.

Save the line, post the batch, then refresh and check the value in the location balance.

The balance remains at 100 as the quantity was not adjusted. The WDV and value update as planned — the average becomes 50 because 5000 ÷ 100 = 50.

You can use the same approach to adjust stock value, stock balance, and WDV.
